An automatic sprinkler system, the main drain of which is actually the water flow control valve, is important in testing the function of this value at least once per year to ensure proper water flow and pressure to the sprinkler system. This test also indicates whether or not there are any blockages in the water pipes that risk damage to the system, or a reduced or nonexistent water supply to the system during emergency use.
We will notify the local fire department of the upcoming test if the fire sprinkler system is connected to a central alarm.
Finding the water flow test control valve and turning the control valve handle slowly to the right, turns on the water and lines the valve up with the pipe. After allowing the water to run till appropriate, we identify the free-flowing water that indicates that the water pipes are clear of any obstructions and the valve is working properly. We recognize it's important to listen for the system's built-in alarm to sound if one is connected. Turn the control valve off by slowly turning it back to the left, which puts the valve at an angle to the pipe.
We verify dates to ensure any testing is done properly, and with as little interference as possible.
